UAFS baseball news 2019

FORT SMITH, Ark. – UAFS senior center fielder Travis Young has been named the NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week following his performance during the Lions’ sweep of the Texas A&M International Dustdevils this past weekend.
Young, who is from Wichita, Kan., batted 0.600 with six hits, including two doubles and two home runs, and had seven RBIs. He struck out only once and drew three walks.
His first home run – a grand slam – came during the second game and helped give the Lions’ the lead and his second home run came in the third game as part of the Lions’ school-record, seven-home-run performance in a 19-4 run-rule win that secured the series sweep.
Young, who also was the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week, is the second player to earn NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week honors during the Lions’ NCAA Division II era. Former Lion designated hitter Blaise Warrick received the honor during the 2016 season.
UAFS (24-16, 11-7) will finish the regular season with a three-game series against the Newman Jets beginning on Friday at McCarthy Field in Wichita, Kan.
