Men’s Golf Signs Top 30 Player in the Nation

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas men’s golf head coach Brad McMakin announced Wednesday that Julian Perico from Lima, Peru, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Razorbacks for the 2018-19 season.

Perico is ranked No. 26 in the country by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and checks in at No. 347 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

“We couldn’t be happier to land one of the top players in the country,” said McMakin. “Julian has already won a handful of times this year and we expect him to come in and make an immediate impact on our program.”

Playing his prep career at Montverde Academy in Florida, Perico was selected to play on the Toyota Junior World Cup Team and earned AJGA All-America honorable mention honors following his junior season.

The standout has hoisted a series of trophies this year, winning the South American Championship in Brazil, the IMG Junior World Championship, the AJGA Memorial Junior Championship and the Mitsubishi Pro Championship in Peru.

While current Razorback Alvaro Ortiz was in a playoff and just missed winning the 2017 Latin American Amateur Championship, Perico was right behind him, finishing in fourth place overall. He holds the record for the lowest round in LAC tournament history with a 64, and was the youngest player in the field when he set the mark.

As a sophomore, Perico won the Match Play Championship Peru, and finished runner-up at the South American Junior Championship, the Faldo Series South American Junior Championship, the Hurricane Junior Annual Academy Tournament and the Golfweek Junior Tournament. He was also the low amateur at the PGA Latin America Lexus Open.
